Katharina Wenty grew up in Vienna, where she studied theater, film and media studies as well as multimedia, specializing in film and photography. With appearances in over 20 countries, she is now considered one of the most internationally successful slam poets in the German-speaking world. As a filmmaker, she has already been part of several short film festivals, as well as a winner of the Media Literacy Award, the Zeit:impuls Short Film Award and many more.
In 2018, she was Poetry Slam national champion for Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland and was a finalist at the European Poetry Slam Championships in Budapest. She has been publishing since the age of 18 and her book Hautflügelmieder was published by Lektora Verlag in 2022.
In 2023, she won the HUGO Award for new concert formats with her interdisciplinary feminist ensemble Lingua:Lyra, which combines historical music with modern poetry, as well as the Playground Competition and Diversity Award of the HfM Detmold. In addition, Katharina designs artistic concert programs for and with choirs and also performs with them (e.g. JCÖ, Vocale Neuburg, coro siamo).

As chairwoman of Poetry slam’md – Association for Stage Art, Literature and Youth Culture, she regularly organizes and moderates poetry slams with an international focus at home and abroad, and is involved in the organization of European and World Poetry Slam Championships, including organizing the 2026 European Poetry Slam Championships in Graz, Austria, in collaboration with the Slamkollektiv.
Furthermore, she co-organizes, curates and moderates the Art Visuals & Poetry Film Festival, the second largest poetry film festival in the world, at Künstlerhaus Wien.
