HOW TO PARTICIPATE 1. Write your own, original poetry. You're allowed to quote other poets and poems here and there but the idea and the vast majority of the words have to be yours; no covers nor tributes. 2. Practice your performance; you can either read it or go by heart. And have in mind that our official international rules dictate that you have 3 minutes on stage and no music, costumes or any other external element can be used: it's just your voice and your body. 3. Find your local Slam! These days most of the cities around the World have a Poetry Slam scene. Get in touch with them, find out how to participate and try your best. Remember that the Slam is not about the competition, is about community and sharing. 4. If you happen to win your local Slam, first of all... congratulations! Now you can keep going either to the regionals or straight to the national, depending on your organization's rules. Embrace the experience and make new friends. Give the audience a memorable performance. 5. So you won the national? Wow, that's just amazing! This means that the organization in charge of your continental competition will get in touch with you regarding your participation. This time you don't need to win: if you get one of the 10 higher scores you'll be automatically qualified for the World Poetry Slam Championship. 6. You did it! We are in contact with all the continental and national Poetry Slam scenes around the World so we'll grant you an invitation and make sure you get to perform at our next World Poetry Slam Championship.
